Product no.: A-00226
A framed and double mounted original oil painting of Second World War De Havilland Mosquito FB Mk. VI on a section of genuine, original dated 1942 RAF (War) Map of North West England. This wartime map is incredibly special as it was originally owned by Fred Verity DFM, a Mosquito naviagtor with 515 Squadron and bears his handwritten name in the top right hand corner. The map also shows two pencil plotting lines from when the map was used as a navigational aid.
Fred Veriity (Service No: 1623758) was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal on 1st December 1944 and the group citation reads:
“…One night in October, 1944, these officers and airmen took part in an operation involving a mine-laying mission. Their task, which necessitated a high degree of skill and perfect co-ordination, was to detract the concentrated fire of the defences. Gun positions and search light defences were relentlessly attacked and a number of them put out of action. The results obtained reflect the greatest credit on the ability and resolution displayed by these officers and airmen, whose efforts contributed materially to the success of a hazardous mission.”
This very special aviation artwork combined with its provenance and original ownership, make this a historical piece worthy of any collection. As one might expect of a Second World War air map over 75 years old, it shows signs of use that only adds to the character of the artwork.
