A framed original pencil drawing of a Hawker Hurricane Mk. 1 of No. 1 Squadron. Mounted with a genuine fragment from the aircraft, shot down on 13th May 1940 by several Messerschmitt 110 fighters. The drawing is also presented with the original signature of the pilot, Group Captain Billy Drake DSO, DFC & Bar, DFC (US). This original fragment of aluminium skin has been excavated from the crash site and featured in a BBC documentary at the time.

Billy Drake was injured but, managed to bale out and landed North East of Perthes in France. He was eventually evacuated to England and later resumed flying duties and had a distinguished career, ultimately surviving the war. He died in 2011.

This is a highly unique and historically significant collection from the Battle of France combined with an original artwork.

This original pencil drawing is on heavyweight acid free art paper.  The overall frame size measures approx. 53 x 43 cm.
